Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
Lorie ("we", "our", or "us") is a calorie and nutrition tracking app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information We Collect
- Account information: email address provided through Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple when you create or access your account.
- Meal photos: photos you take or select from your photo library for AI-based nutrition analysis. Photos are uploaded to our servers and sent to OpenAI for analysis.
- Meal descriptions: free-text descriptions of meals you type when logging via the Describe option. Descriptions are sent to OpenAI to estimate ingredients and nutrition.
- Meal clarifications: free-text notes you type when asking the AI to reanalyze a meal (for example, answering what a dish actually is). Clarifications are sent to OpenAI with that reanalysis and are not stored — they are forgotten when you finish or change the meal.
- Region and units context: along with each AI analysis, we send your device's timezone, the local time of the scan, and your unit preference (metric or imperial) to OpenAI, so portion estimates match your region's everyday measures.
- Setup usage: which steps of the initial setup you reach, together with a device installation identifier and the app version, used to improve the setup flow. This is stored on our servers and not shared with third parties.
- Health and nutrition data: meals, calorie counts, macro targets, and nutrition history you enter into the app.
- Body data: biological sex, age, body weight, and body height, used to calculate personalized calorie and macro suggestions. This data is stored with your account settings.
- Purchase and subscription information: subscription status, App Store transaction or receipt data, and related identifiers processed to verify premium access. We do not store full payment card details.
Device Permissions
- Camera: used to take meal photos for AI nutrition analysis. Access is requested only when you initiate a photo scan.
- Photo library: used to select existing photos for AI nutrition analysis. Access is requested only when you choose to upload a photo.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and sync your nutrition tracking data across sessions.
- To analyse meal photos, meal descriptions, and meal clarifications and estimate nutritional content using AI.
- To look up foods you log — packaged products in a public food database, and common foods in a nutrition reference database we host — so their nutrition values are accurate.
- To calculate personalized calorie and macro targets based on your body data.
- To manage your account and subscription.
- To let you know when a newer app version is available — the app asks the App Store or Google Play; no account data is sent, though like any web request this exposes your device's IP address to Apple or Google.
Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Supabase on servers in the European Union. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
Third-Party Services
- Supabase – database, authentication, and photo storage (privacy policy).
- OpenAI – used to analyse meal photos, meal descriptions, and meal clarifications and estimate nutrition, together with your device's timezone, local time, and unit preference for region-appropriate portion estimates (privacy policy).
- Open Food Facts – when the app recognizes a packaged product in your photo or meal description, it looks the product up in the Open Food Facts public food database to fetch accurate nutrition values. Only the product's brand and name are sent — never your photo, your description, or anything that identifies you or your account. Like any web request, the lookup exposes your device's IP address to Open Food Facts (privacy policy).
- RevenueCat – subscription management and entitlement verification. RevenueCat may process app user identifiers, device technical information, and App Store transaction or receipt data to determine subscription status (privacy policy).
- Apple App Store / Google Play – payment processing for subscriptions, and the source the app checks to tell you when a newer version is available.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties, except as required to operate the services listed above or as required by law.
Children's Privacy
Lorie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, use the Delete Account option in the app's Settings screen. Deletion is permanent and removes all your data from our servers.
